Lynchpin - Hand Picked Words

Don't talk about us

And when they ask us how we are
Don't talk about us
Politely smile or walk away and change the subject
With some sparkling hand picked words
It maybe difficult or I've been taken
And you may find this easy

Not matter what they say
Don't talk about us

I'm fine I'm fine, thank you
thanks for asking but I'm fine
and she's fine she's great, thank you
thanks for asking, but she's fine

I know you've hidden all those letters
by the socks in your top drawer
Can't bring yourself to throw them out now
But don't need them any more
It maybe difficult or I've been taken
And you may find this easy
Not matter what they say
Don't talk about us
Whatever they may say
Don't talk about us

It must be sunny where you are now
Cos'my face is feeling warm
A textured light on the horizon
this place you now call home
It maybe difficult or I've been taken
And you may find this easy
Not matter what they say
Don't talk about us
Whatever they may say
Don't talk about us

I'm fine I'm fine, thank you
thanks for asking but I'm fine
and she's fine she's great, thank you
thanks for asking, but she's fine

It's all good

She's twice as nice as the girls on TV
great teeth, great skin just between you and me
Her table manners are second to none
She smile's so bright she's the heart of the sun
She's got me going to concerto's in D
A short walk from the opera to the art gallery

I could be dying here
but for the moment it's all good
She's telling me it's all good
she says that's it's all good

I'd rather shop than go to the game
My seasons tickets have gone down the drain
We shop on weekends for nothing at all
Come home, feet are wet
leave my shoes in the hall
We go outside we have fun with the hose
Wash her new car wipe the suds from her nose

I could be choking here but for the moment
It's all good
She's telling me it's all good
she says that's it's all good
She's telling me it's all good
she says that's it's all good

I'd rather shop than go to the game
My seasons tickets have gone down the drain

I'm really choking here but for the moment
It's all good
She's telling me it's all good
she says that's it's all good
She's telling me it's all good
she says that's it's all good
She's telling me it's all good
she says that baby's good

yeah yeah yeah!

Breathing Down My Neck

I can feel you breathing down my neck from here
And I know the danger is
that I don't want it to stop there
You're delightful in a serious way
And you're the rightful ambassador today
And I can feel you breathing down my neck from here

The trigger happy locomotive that I call defense
Has now been crushed
by the mortar and the pestle on the bench
And you're delightful in a spooky kind of way
As I rifle through the games that we play
And I can feel you breathing down my neck from here
And I can feel you breathing down my neck from here

And everything you say
Makes even more sense now

You're delightful in a serious way
And you're the rightful ambassador today
And I can feel you breathing down my neck from here

You're delightful in a serious way
And you're the rightful ambassador today
And I can feel you breathing down my neck from here

Under My Guard

An honest appraisal of you
Is the least I can possibly do
To sugar coat everything new
Would not be productive
We can go through the motions of trust
But the ethical burdens too much
So why are the battle lines drawn
In removal marker pens

And you get under my guard again
You get under my guard again
You get so far under my guard

You lie there surrounded by cards
That tell you how special you are
And if the good weather should break
You'll be living in paper mache'

And you get under my guard again
You get under my guard again
You get so far under my guard

And it's a very fine line
between the old and the new
It took me years to decide
Am I permitted to hold you
So articulate the chink in your smile
Let me shadow you like the sun

So credit where credit is due
And they'll make up their minds about you
A fortunate scene that we knew
Would just keep repeating

And you get under my guard again
You get under my guard again
You get so far under my guard

Is there anyone out there

Of all the places in the world
I guess I had to meet you here
we're sharing anecdotes
amongst the smell of smoke
and luke warm beer out on the balcony now
everything seems clear
the nights are clear and warm
the stars are out in force
high in the sky we see a comet
searching desperately to catch somebody's eye
even the satellites
can't help resist this vibe

is there anyone out there

a hidden palace quite serene
I'm sure that's close to where you live
the rolling hillside and the gardens
that you never get to see
amongst the movie stars
there'll still be you and me

is there anyone out there

is there anyone out there
who feels the way I do
hard for me to follow
the trail you leave behind
harder still to get you from my mind

is there anyone out there

Of all the places in the world
I guess I had to meet you here

Jessica

And I am intrigued with everything you do
And I will believe in everything you do

And I hope the sun is shining
And this typhoon that we're getting doesn't follow you
But then again it's always nice to see the rain this time of year

Jessica caught the 5.30 boat from here
Headed for the mainland with her backpack
And a carry bag for show and tell

Killed a few hours looking at the bright blue sky
Thumbing through the tourist shirts that no one wants to buy
Heading for the bus stop the 12.00 to Cairns is getting near

And I hope the sun shining when you get there
And this typhoon doesn't follow you
But then again it's always nice to see the rain this time of year

And I am intrigued by everything you do
And I will believe in everything you do

And I hope the sun is shining
And this typhoon that we're getting does not follow you
But then again it's always nice to see the rain this time of year
And I hope that things are going well
and it's shining, shining down on you
But then again it's always nice to see the rain this time of year

Inside my head

She said I wish you could get
inside my head
so many questions the light you could shed
and you with your black dress
lying so still
I cant go to sleep while I'm staring at you

I'm always here to read your letters
if you feel like just sending them
I'm always here to read your letters
if you feel like just sending them

so, so I play hard avoiding your eyes
as you sit before me as quiet as a child
and I act so funny a boyish facade
a blueprint for danger
you're breathing so hard

I'm always here to read your poetry
if you feel like sending it
I'm always here to read your poetry
if you feel like sending it

so I reflect in glowing defeat
was I inspiration or the joke of the week
damming opinions from near and afar
hidden emotions industrial scars

I'm always here to read your letters
if you feel like just sending them
I'm always here to read your letters
if you feel like just sending them
I'm always here to read your poetry
if you feel like sending it

C'mon baby now

C'mon baby now draw a circle let me step within
C'mon baby now gather me like thoughts inside a tin
Please let me look within

C'mon baby now memories fade but love is still alive
C'mon baby now underpin the ever rising tide
Let's take it in our stride

C'mon baby now
familiarise yourself with your new world
C'mon baby now settle into all that you deserve
You were so good to observe

C'mon baby now hidden in ever flowing sea
Lies the answer now
writhing with a turbulence not seen
An emerald colored green

And I keep thinking you'll turn up
and feel the same as me
For a while there we were free

C'mon baby now poison me with lies you cannot keep
I'm reflecting now
and wondering just how on earth I'll sleep
This secret's hard to keep

C'mon baby now coincidence is just a term you try
cheap protection from the feelings that you know you can't deny
do your rules still apply

And I keep thinking you'll turn up
and feel the same as me
For a while there we were free

C'mon baby now
C'mon baby now

Nothing's as pretty

Seaside interiors
Sitting on our table like a book of invitations
The room seems cheerier
Sprinkled new with honey dew and curtains

Charming exteriors
Belted with the ocean and a lifetime of surprises
We feel inferior
Looking at the cracking walls and bank books

Outside the sky is blue
Flanked with a million situations
Outside here Nothing's as pretty

Seaside interiors
Sitting on our table like a deck of introductions
The room seems cheerier
Knowing that you're loving me for certain

Outside the sky is blue
boasting a million reputations
Outside here Nothing's as pretty as you

And is it possible
To circle round this big old world in less than eighty credit cards
and is it feasible that we could go right now

Outside the sky is blue
Charged with a million revelations
Outside here Nothing's as pretty
Outside Nothing's as pretty
Outside Nothing's as pretty

I know it by now
That look on your face
You're wishing yourself to other places
Far from the scene we're in right now

I've seen it before
And I often find
What goes on inside your mind
What goes on inside your mind............

Four in the morning

I could never see myself retaining full control
I'd rather sit and contemplate arrangements of the soul
it's four in the morning and I wish I could see you
it's four in the morning

and so I've got this house to run
there's rabbits on the lawn
and you've got yourself a new place
now not far from the main town
it's four in the morning and I wish I could see you
it's four in the morning

and I'm alone again
I fucked up again
I'm alone

the moon drenches the balcony
there's fruit trees yet to bloom
and I'm tripping over disused toys in abstract empty rooms
it's four in the morning and I wish I could see you
it's four in the morning
I wish I could see you

Its too late

And so she quit her job so she could be a star
and travel round the world in someone else's car, how far
and so it's her decision but I've seen the state of play
the crows feet are detectable from not that far away

and it's too late to try and understand what's happening
and it's too late to try and open up her eyes, her eyes

but this is unfamiliar cause no one knows your face
you've given up your world and no one knows your face

and it's too late to try and understand what's happening
(you're always holding on to everything near)
and it's too late to try and open up her eyes
(you want so desperately for someone to hear)
and it's too late to try and understand this tragedy
(you act so confident but you're full of fear)
guess we all thought she was happy

there's cracks into the future hold them up, take a bow
opaque and beautiful
for now she's looking like a little demon
awkwardly shouting out, seizing the events that turn you quickly
like you're spinning on a round-a-bout
round-a-bout now baby, hey!

and it's too late to try and open up her eyes
and it's too late to try and understand this tragedy
guess we all thought she was happy
we were wrong, we were wrong

and it's too late
yes it's too late
and it's too late
yes it's too late

Why don't you face it

No one is wiser or suspects a thing
the private dictation, the casual fling
as the courting is done
after 8:31 at the photocopy machine

business as usual push comes to shove
mid Monday morning he emails his love
as he sits with his coffee
and desk full of family photos

did he drag you away from your life
only to tell you that something's not right
as he held you then left you
then started the car
was it then that you started to wonder

when his wife calls him
you put her straight through
you know that she loves him
but what can you do baby
though you know better
he's told you he's going to leave her

were the flowers attached to a note
"sorry can't make it" was all that he wrote
was the motel room under a false sounding name
was it then that you started to wonder

it's not that easy when kids are involved
all the excuses I'm sure you've been told baby
why don't you face it cause he'll never change it around
why don't you face it cause he'll never change it around
why don't you face it cause he'll never change it
why don't you face it right now
